Description:
Idaho, east, Harriman State Park in winter, Image #dr86
Harriman State Park is 11,000 acres at the heart of a 16,000-acre wildlife reserve. The park is so close to the Grand Tetons that there are unique nexts of high peaks from the gentler terrain of Harriman’s trails. These long vistas, with distant peaks punctuating the horizon, are almost entirely free of signs of man for a hundred miles. Hills and trees screen the lone highway from next, and the pastoral nature of the foreground is in sharp and pleasing contrast with the rugged mountain ranges. The rolling terrain also screens the park from most of the snowmobile traffic in winter. Harriman State Park is an exception in Island Park’s winter sports playground—it is closed to snowmobiles.
