Harriet Peck Taylor - Fine Artist
I received my BFA in Fine Art from the University of Colorado and have been working as an artist for my entire adult life. I am an award-winning author and illustrator of 7 picture books for children. My images have been licensed for use on greeting cards, posters, art prints, tiles, album covers, and gift wear that are sold worldwide. My art is in private collections and public spaces across North America and Canada.
How lucky I am to live the artist’s life. I’ve had the opportunity to stand on a wind swept mountain at dawn and I’ve watched stars shoot across an infinite moonlit night. Still, it’s the birds and animals who’ve shown me sheer joy and helped me feel connected to the whole of nature.
Since part of my background is that of a storyteller, my art is narrative. Because of the many years I’ve spent hiking and camping from Colorado to Alaska, there is a story and sometimes an adventure behind each image. I feel most alive when I’m in wild places and the days spent there are etched deeply into my psyche; brilliant, bold, and animated. The presence of beauty keeps me humble and grounded and provides endless inspiration and joy. I hope that when you look at my art, you’ll find yourself transported you to that magical place.
Mine is not a naturalist’s realism, but rather nature filtered through my dreams, thoughts, and fantasies. Primitivism and Folk Art from around the world have influenced my style for their use of stylized imagery and patterns and I admire Fuavism for its use of bold, whimsical colors.
A critic once said of my art that 'it pulses with the effervescent joy of color and creation...' and that thought sustains me. I hope that throught my art , I can share with you a tiny bit of the joy and mystery and sublime beauty that is out there.
