Lena, OLena Art. Born in Russia, she is now a U.S. Citizen residing in Colorado, and considers herself a 'Citizen of the World.'
On her art career, she says, 'Art is in my blood. My father was a talented artist, painting still-life and nature. He taught me humanity, beauty, sensitivity, and wisdom. Inspired by my father, I had an interest in art and philosophy from an early age and always kept my 'silver shine,' by which I mean I kept my paints and brushes ready. I keep this quote by Rabindranath Tagore on my website: 'God respects me when I work, but He loves me when I sing.' It is a connection between art and my philosophy towards life, which can be described in a few words: that beauty, truth, joy and peace is not separated.
After arriving in Colorado in 2002, my love for art was rekindled and soon I was creating wooden sculptures, intarsia and returned to painting; I now enjoy working in many art forms including photography. I have too much to say in words and in the visual form of my paintings... '
On her inspiration and technique, she says, 'My desire to reproduce Russian icons, Greek and Italian frescos led me to create an antique look to my paintings: classic fresco-secco technique. I use lime and gypsum rock compound to create my canvas. For outdoor art I use dried pigments or acrylics on dried or wet plaster. For indoor art I use mixed media and oil. I sand, stain and break my fresco to achieve an antique look. After all steps my paintings are ready to hang and need no frame. The weigh approximately from 5 to 30 pounds.'
