My interest in photography began a few years back when my husband and I were on an Alaskan cruise. Being armed with my trusty point-and-shoot camera, I soon realized that I was not able to capture the awesome scenic beauty we were surrounded by. While the photographs I took were OK, I couldn't help believing that all the other photographers I saw with tripods and mega-impressive looking telephoto lenses were getting really great images to take home with them.
On my next birthday my husband bought me my present SLR camera setup and encouraged me to take some photography classes to develop my technical skills. I am finding that the more I combine these new skills with my love for wildlife and nature, the more I am growing as an artist.
I am fortunate enough to have an abundance of wildlife right on my own property, so spending a summer afternoon waiting for that perfect hummingbird shot, or catching a young fawn licking a snowflake from it's nose on a frosty winter morning are all there for the taking. Although I also enjoy taking landscape and still life shots, wildlife and nature photography will always hold a special place in my heart.
