ABOUT: Thomas is a freelance professional photographer. Using only natural available light, he specializes in scenic landscape, nature and travel photography with a special niche' for the semi-abstract in nature. Thomas creates unique and expressive landscapes with a style all his own. He resides in Connecticut's scenic Litchfield Hills.
A born naturalist, I appreciate the grandeur of the American Western landscape including the towering Rockies and Canyonlands which is filled with iconic features that attract scores of artist. Instead, I find myself working mostly throughout New England and the Southern Appalachains/Great Smokies as I find it's perfectly suited to seek out quiet, more intimate landscapes. The topography is far more subtle so finding those dramatic images to express myself and captivate a viewer is more challenging than one encounters in Montana, Colorado or Arizona. When you do find that special scenic, the results are just as rewarding!
The New England and Appalachain Wilderness is all about hidden nooks and mysterious deep woods and without a doubt, pristine conditions exist and it's quite possible to become lost in it's vast tracts of undisturbed forest. What makes New England so unique is these wild places are spaced between the bucolic country farmlands and picturesque villages that dot the landscape. Somehow, the cultivating hand of mankind mistakenly created a beauty of it's own that seems perfectly suited for the environment and the natural setting. Old rustic barns set beside an open field, lighthouses perched on the rocky shoreline and Covered bridges spanning a stream in some backwater rural town to name just a few. Becoming intimately familiar with these places allows me to return many times to capture the different moods and atmospheres, the essence, and the pace of time.....
ARTIST STATEMENT: My goal is to create Fine Art Photographs. I concentrate on selling Quality over quantity and meeting the high standards set for Fine Art Photographers. The process is characterized by attention to detail and deliberate actions, being technically excellent and artistically inspiring.
Capturing the key ingredients of a dynamic composition is quite exhilerating. The images I create share my unique personal vision and passion for the subject before me. My personal vision continues to reveal itself over time as the viewer both admires and reflects upon my work. The circle is complete once the viewer comes to a deeper understanding and realizes a shared passion.
My photography career has allowed me the opportunity to explore many different regions and uncover the beauty within. While not exploring a new frontier, I am often dreaming and planning the next adventure.
THOMAS SCHOELLER STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY: I respond favorably to request when publishers contact me or someone has a unique use for a commercial project or website enhancement. I do not prospect for magazine or book publications or market my photography in such a manner. In many instances, this is not a dependable income source so I use it as a supplement to Fine Art sales. If you would like to publish any of my (c) Copyright protected work to accompany a magazine article/cover or a calendar please contact me. My photostream on Flickr may have more appropriate photographs which are broken down into 'regional' groups to help you find a suitable image. I charge a fee which depends on many factors, so please when requesting to use my work provide me with detailed information for it's use.
